In South Africa, the buying and selling of cannabis is currently illegal, except for medical or scientific purposes. The Cannabis for Private Purposes Bill 2020, which is currently under consideration in Parliament, does not legalize the sale of cannabis for personal use.
Under the proposed bill, individuals may possess and cultivate cannabis for personal use, subject to limits to be set out in regulations. However, the sale of cannabis would still be prohibited, except for authorized purposes such as medical or scientific use.
It is important to note that until the bill is passed and the regulations are established, the possession, cultivation, and sale of any amount of cannabis for personal use remains illegal in South Africa.
